History
The history of City Car Club goes back to December 6th, 1999, when Group 24 H Ltd was established to develop and support the car sharing reservation system. The system would keep track of the resources of the shared cars and manage billing. The technology needed for the cars was developed together with Sonera (now-a-days part of TeliaSonera), the biggest telecommunications company in Nort Europe.
The pilot phase began in March 2000, with three cars, and it was brought to fruition on September 12th, 2000, when the online booking system was launched. Since then, the number of users has continually increased. In January 2004, the booking system was integrated to the ProCountor.com finance control system that also runs online.
In the summer of 2002, City Car Club agreed a contract with Statoil about acquiring its unit Bilpool in Sweden. Since January 2003, the sister company Svensk Bilpool AB has continued its business in Sweden and, in March 2004, the City Car Club booking system was implemented there, with all the cars changed to the new telematics system. During the summer of 2003, City Car Club was a contender in the environmental category at the World Technology Networking competition, which was only the second time a Finnish company had been nominated. In December 2003, City Car Club was awarded an environmental prize by one of the Finland’s Environmental Administrations.
